Beloit College Mindset List

Times have changed along with other things as well. There is the "Beloit College Mindset List" that has a list of seventy-five different things that they think are true about the class of 2014. People think a lot of times that we rely totally on technology or that we would have no idea what something was from the eighties, but we sometimes do know and we don't always rely on our technology. There are many things that they have listed that I find very true and I have done or thought them myself. But, there are some that I find false and then there are some that I have no idea what they are even talking about.

I totally agree with number one on the list. It is "Few in the class know how to write in cursive." I do not remember how to write in cursive. I learned how to use cursive in second grade and it was cool back then, but once I got into sixth grade it was a hastle and we complained about having to write in cursive. Once I got to middle school I only had to use it every once in a while and once high school rolled around we didn't use it at all. I have also never seen a computer without a CD-ROM disk drive and I always complain about nothing being on TV when I have hundreds of channels on cable.

With the many things on this list that I find very true, there are things that I don't find true also. When I was in elementary school I had tons of friends and cute little boyfriends and I did indeed twist the coiled handset wire aimlessly around my wrist while talking on the phone to them. I actually had one of those dial with your finger in the hole kind of phones when I was younger. I also do know the reference towards pointing towards your wrist for requesting the time of day. The whole time I was growing up, my mom always did that to me if I was doing something to make us late to refer that we needed to leave. Or if I was talking to someone and saying that we didn't have all day I would tap my wrist.

Some of the things on the list I have no idea what they even mean. Like who is J.R. Ewing or Doctor Kevorkian? Some of the things on the list do not have any relevance to us and we shouldn't have to know them. I do understand that somethings on the list I should know, but don't. So I guess me saying that I don't know some of them makes it look like we don't know things about what happened or was done in the past.

This "Beloit College Mindset List" is cool to look at and see what they think we know and don't know. There are things on this list that I do think are true. There are things on this list though that i do not find true and there are somethings that I have no idea what they are. Some people may think that we rely on technology or don't know lots of things, but we are actually smart individuals and we know what is going on.
